Johannes (Jan) de Jong, born 31-12-1864 in Rotterdam – died 28-05-1901 in Rotterdam.
The painter Jan de Jong lived and worked in Rotterdam all his life. He attended the academy in Rotterdam and was then taught by the landscape painter J.H. Wijtkamp.
His oeuvre mainly consists of landscapes, folk figures and crowded Rotterdam cityscapes, in which we can find much of Rotterdam around the turn of the century.
He was, among other things, a teacher of; Constant Jozeph Alban, Gerard Altmann (1877-1940), Rudolf Willem van der Assen, Herman Mees, George Pletser, Leen van Zanten, August Willem van Vervoorden, S. Lindschoten.
Work can be found in the Zeeuws Museum in Middelburg, among others.
