Interior scene with a woman doing needlework
Gijsbertus Jan Sijthoff was born in Delft on 6 August 1867 and died in Laren (NH) on 14 October 1949.
He was a student of the Academy of BK in The Hague, after that he was taught by BJ Blommers. Sijthoff painted, produced watercolors, drew and lithographed portraits, interiors and exteriors, cityscapes and landscapes.
He lived and worked in Scheveningen, Rijswijk, Delft, Heeze, Antwerp and Bruges and finally in Laren (NH).
He was a member of ‘St.Lucas‘ and ‘Pulchri‘, the Dutch Art Circle and the association of BK ‘Laren-Blaricum’.
He taught his wife Johanna Bastiana van Rijswijk, AFAM Hiel and Maria Ch. J. Sterre de Jong.
He lived in Laren at the Tafelbergweg number 8 in villa ‘Alberta’.
